In October 1944, in an "Appeal to the Red Army" the Russian writer Ilya Ehrenburg wrote:
"Kill, Kill! There are no innocent Germans, among the living, or among those yet to be born! Carry out Comrade Stalin's instructions to crush the fascist beast in his lair Shatter the pride  of the Germanic women with violence. Take them as lawful spoils.
