VIETNAM WAR: Vietcong Tried To Entice American Soldiers To Cross Over

A little known episode of the Vietnam War is the attempts by the Vietcong to convince American soldiers to come over to their side by offering money and women. The motive? To learn about the American Army training methods.

The basic message of these leaflets is, "Hey, American! This girl and $ 10,000 in cash. Live in comfort in Europe or Asia. You do not have to fight their own people. We need to cooperate with you, that you have trained. You can get some extra money, if you will help us to train or participate in intelligence programs."

SOME LESSER KNOWN WW2 FACTS..........After the capitulation of the German Reich Germans of the Czech Sudetenland met the wrath of the Czechs...........The Germans were forced to leave their homes and leave their property............ To identify their nationality they were required to wear clothing to wear "N" ("Nemec" = "German") on their clothes..........Not infrequently, the displaced were brutally killed. The worst massacres occurred in Usti nad Labem, where 2700 German were killed within a few hours............After Hitler's war had been lost, millions of ethnic Germans in regions that are today part of Eastern Europe were expelled -- often under horrendous circumstances............. It has been proven that at least 473,000 people died as they fled or were expelled...........14 million Germans were expelled from their homes in Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and other Eastern European countries after the war. Only 12 million were able to get to Germany alive. The tragedy of the expulsion of the German civilian population is hardly widely known except amongst Germans and historians...........The Cossacks have always been fiercely independent. In 1941 when the Germans invaded Russia the Cossacks found a way to fight the Stalinist regime. They fought in the Wehrmacht against the Red Army.As the war was ending, the Cossacks found themselves cornered in Austria. All the captured Cossacks were handed over to the Red Army by the British. Women and children included. Knowing full well the sad fate that awaited the Cossacks.A Cossack noted: “The NKVD or the Gestapo would have slain us with truncheons, the British did it with their word of honor.”..........Men from the Waffen SS were especially picked out for"special treatment" by both the Red Army as well as the American soldiers. The Russians simply tortured and killed any SS soldier they captured. The Americans did the same to a lesser extent. And even after the war ended they were tortured and forced to make confessions..............

Germany dismembered in 1945

As Germans like to complain, Prussia was the only state abolished by the victors after the Second World War. Brandenburg was dissolved into the German Democratic Republic; West Prussia became Polish; East Prussia was partitioned between Poland and the Soviet Union, which annexed the coastal region around the capital, Königsberg (renamed Kaliningrad). Churchill, whose ideas about Germany were at best late Victorian, was convinced that Hitler’s Third Reich was merely a resurgence of Prussian martial imperialism, blamed by his generation for every European conflict since 1860. His loyal fan Bob Boothby went a bit further: East Prussia, he claimed, was ‘the focal point of the infection of Prussian militarism.’ He added that the forcible expulsion of the whole German population was ‘rough but, by God they deserve it!’

That was Churchill’s opinion too. Some 12 million ethnic Germans fled or were driven out of east and central Europe at the end of the Second World War, with Churchill’s enthusiastic approval and British participation (Operation Swallow). This gigantic act of ethnic cleansing, as we would now call it, was euphemized as ‘population transfer,’ on the model of the huge expulsions of Greeks from Turkey and vice versa in 1922.

The rage of the Soviet soldiers was terrible. There were very few who had not suffered in some way from the Nazi invasion. Most had lost relatives in the war and many had lost their homes and all their belongings under German occupation. The anti-Nazi propaganda of the Soviet Army was so strong that almost every soldier was overwhelmed by an insatiable craving for revenge. The first Germans they met suffered most. Many civilians were indiscriminately killed, women were raped,property was destroyed and German military warehouses plundered.

Twisted American Marines At Guadalcanal

During the fight for Guadalacanal in 1942-43, the American marines led a miserable life. They were short of rations, suffered from dysentery and the creepy-crawlies of the jungle, not to forget the incessant Japanese attacks, made some of them unhinged.

After a skirmish with the Jap soldiers, some marines put the heads of three dead enemy soldiers on bamboo poles facing the Japanese side. The commander of the unit was furious and told them that only animals did such things.

A marine replied, "That's right, Colonel, we are animals. We live like animals. We eat like animals. Treated like animals. What the fuck do you expect?"

Points To Ponder....

Most of us feel nauseated by what the Russians, Americans and British (not to mention the French and others) did to a defeated German nation. An argument goes that the ordinary German was not guilty of what Hitler and his henchmen did.

True. But it can also be seen that Germans happily settled in occupied countries and used slave labor.

But was the ordinary German on the street guilty? What could he or she have done against the Nazi state? Nothing. Most of us live in democracies today but how much real influence do we have on the government?

Did the German deserved to be treated so bestially in East Prussia in January 1945? Or in Poland and Czechoslovakia after the surrender?

Grey areas.

One thing is certain. What that little man in loin clothes said many decades ago is true. Pity that men like Stalin and Hitler did not listen to it. Is Gandhi understood and listened to even today?

Anyway.
